JUDAS PRIEST and WHITESNAKE kicked off their joint summer tour last night (Wednesday, July 1) at The Family Arena in St Charles, Missouri.
"The Metal Gods are just that. A fact that was reinforced in spades last night. Huge response from the crowd.
"The 'British Steel' songs were tight and sounded perfect. [Rob] Halford [vocals] was in amazing form all night, hitting the expected high notes in 'Victim of Changes' and 'The Ripper', and stalking the stage throughout the show.
"As much as I loved last year's set and performance, I think last night's show was better. 'Steeler', in particular, was just a beast live, and my personal highlight. Lasers, smoke, and a loud, clear mix added to the spectacle. Do not miss this show!
"WHITESNAKE were warmly received, although 'Is This Love' was met with indifference from the crowd who were clearly there to see PRIEST. 'Slow an' Easy' and 'Still of the Night' had the biggest reception. I could have done without the (what seemed like) 10-minute guitar duel and the drum solo. Still, for fans of the band, they delivered what you would expect from the veteran act."

It deeply saddens me to announce the passing of The Acid Chimp. He passed quickly in his home of a heart attack at the young age of 37 on June 22nd. Given the birth name of AlanSchafer, he was known by most of his friends as “Big Al”, but in the world of music he was adored globally as “The Acid Chimp”. The future of The Hairball John Radio Show will evaluated over the next couple of weeks, but at this time I morn the loss of a very close friend and genuinely good man.
According to The Pulse of Radio, SHINEDOWN singer Brent Smith spoke with England's Kerrang! magazine at the Download festival two weekends ago about the possibility of a SOUNDGARDEN reunion. Smith said, "There's talk of a reuniting of SOUNDGARDEN in the States soon. I know actually someone specific who told me that, who is actually specifically in their organization. Kinda told me that they're talking about it."
Kerrang!'s interview with Brent Smith can be viewed below.
An inside source told The Pulse of Radio a couple of months ago that a SOUNDGARDEN reunion tour was in the works for the summer of 2010, and that all four members of the band were tentatively interested.
SOUNDGARDEN broke up in 1997 after a five-album, 12-year career. The group was one of the key acts of the Seattle "grunge" scene and one of its biggest exports, along with NIRVANA, PEARL JAM and ALICE IN CHAINS.
Frontman Chris Cornell recorded three albums with AUDIOSLAVE after SOUNDGARDEN's demise and has also embarked on a checkered solo career. Drummer Matt Cameron plays in PEARL JAM, while guitarist Kim Thayil and bass player Ben... [Read More]
CHICKENFOOT — the rock supergroup comprised of drummer Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS), bassist Michael Anthony (ex-VAN HALEN), guitarist Joe Satriani and vocalist Sammy Hagar (ex-VAN HALEN) — were the featured guests on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" with host Bob Coburn on Wednesday, June 17. The program is now available for streaming at this location.
"Oh Yeah", the new video from CHICKENFOOT can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's self-titled debut album, which has sold 131,000 copies in the United States since its June 5 release.
"Chickenfoot" is packaged in heat-sensitive artwork, which means when you put your hand on the CD inlay, photos of the band members are revealed behind the CHICKENFOOT band logo.
CHICKENFOOT first got together more than a year ago when they started jamming in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Although they called the band CHICKENFOOT at the time, Satriani told The Pulse of Radio that nobody thought the name would stick. "Sammy's saying, 'Oh, you know, we can call it CHICKENFOOT,' and everybody... [Read More]
MEGADETH has set "Endgame" as the title of its twelfth studio album, tentatively due in September through Roadrunner Records. The CD was recorded at the band's brand new, self-built studio in San Marcos, California — Vic's Garage — which was named after the legendary and iconic Vic Rattlehead character.
"Endgame" is being helmed by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine and acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap (EXODUS, NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY, MACHINE HEAD). Sneap also manned the boards for 2007's "United Abominations". Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Headcrusher", "1,320", "How the Story Ends" and "This Day We Fight!"
According to a press release, "Endgame" "boasts the technicality, ferocity and snarl that's synonymous with MEGADETH and Mustaine. It's a violent masterwork that represents Mustaine's best work in nearly two decades. In a musical world dominated by bands that make generic, blanket statements, 'Endgame' finds Mustaine, once again, making informed and substantial lyrical declarations about the state of the world we live...
