METALLICA In Guatemala City: Warning Shots, Pepper Gas And Power Outage
Written by The Dude
Saturday, 06 March 2010 14:32

According to elPeriódico, Guatemalan police fired warning shots in the air and used pepper gas to disperse hundreds of METALLICA fans who tried to rush into the sold-out Estadio Mateo Flores (reported attendance: 27,000) in Guatemala City last night (Friday, March 5) in order to see the veteran metal act perform. The situation was eventually brought under control and the concert was reportedly a huge success despite a technical glitch that caused the power to go out during the second song of METALLICA's set, "For Whom The Bell Tolls". After a few minutes, the power came back on and METALLICA's performance resumed.

A five-minute report from Hechos.tv on the events surrounding last night's show can be viewed below.

METALLICA's setlist was as follows:

01. Creeping Death
02. For Whom The Bell Tolls
03. (short generator fix break)
04. For Whom The Bell Tolls
05. Fuel
06. Harvester Of Sorrow
07. Fade To Black
08. That Was Just Your Life

Former VAN HALEN Bassist Launches Official YouTube Channel
Written by Rob Rock

Former VAN HALEN and current CHICKENFOOT bassist Michael Anthony has launched his official YouTube channel, Mad Anthony TV.

Michael Anthony recently said that Eddie and Alex Van Halen hold a grudge against him for maintaining a friendship with Sammy Hagar. Anthony recalled to Mojo, that the problems started between him and the band when in the late '90s, VAN HALEN once again tried unsuccessfully to bring David Lee Roth back into the fold. With VAN HALEN seemingly on hiatus, Hagar had called Anthony to see if he was interested in hooking up with him and Neal Schon in their side project PLANET US.

Anthony explains, "Some VAN HALEN fans say I left the band to hook up with Sammy, but I never said, 'I quit.' There was nothing going on in the VAN HALEN camp, but Eddie kinda backed me up against a wall. . . Eddie felt that I was a traitor. I helped hook Sammy back up with them for the 2004 reunion tour, but Eddie didn't want me to be a part of that originally, so I took a big pay cut. I'm not crying, I didn't need the money. I did that because I wanted to play for the fans. I signed away any legal rights I had with the name, the trademark or whatever. I did it because if that was the last time VAN HALEN would ever be on stage, I wanted to be part of it."

He went on to say, "The major reason why I'm not in VAN HALEN (now) is because I became friends with Sammy again. The Van Halen brothers never got over that. If they hold a grudge, they hold it forever."

DROWNING POOL Guitarist Talks About New Album
Written by Rob Rock
Saturday, 06 March 2010 02:33

Sheila Doki of Metalholic.com recently conducted an interview with guitarist C.J. Pierce of Texas heavy rockers DROWNING POOL. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Metalholic.com: About the upcoming self-titled album — I listened to the new single "Feel Like I Do" earlier today. How have the fans been receiving that?

Pierce: The fans have been awesome, I gotta be honest. I think it's the first time we've ever had momentum… coming off of "37 Stitches", which did really well. And getting a new song out. Everybody seems to take a liking to it, you know? I'm happy with that song, I'm happy with the whole record.

Metalholic.com: How do you think this record differs from the previous three?

Pierce: We have the same singer, instead of going through the whole switching singers thing here. It's an advantage with Ryan [McCombs]. He's been with us for five years now. Usually when we make a new record, we have to find a new singer, find new management/labels. Ryan really goes above and beyond, he really pushes us to try and be better. He really opened up on this record. We're really comfortable with each other.
